Hughsonville is not a well-defined area of the Town. We all know the four corners which are the center of the hamlet, marked by the famous landmark of the “Nesting Doll” Shop and its colorful historic barn as the center, but the edges and where one area begins and ends can be an entertaining, never-ending discussion.

 

But Hughsonville and Wheeler Hill are also a state of mind, of entwined family histories, local legends - some heroic, some comic, some tragic made up a scrappy community of workers, shopkeepers, artisans knitted together, providing goods and services to local landowners, neighboring Hamlets and those individuals traveling through - either on Route 9D, the Wappinger Creek or the Hudson River.   That is as true today as it was over 100 years ago. That is the energy that we want to preserve, and it is the context of the buildings, individuals, families, and stories that we want as our foundation as we move into our futures, remembering those who came before us and welcoming those new to the area.

 

By becoming a member of the association, you are helping us build the awareness of community - no matter how close you live to the center of the Hamlet, if you are protected by the Hughsonville Fire Company, use the services of the post office, get your coffee at the Hughsonville  Mart, drink beer at the Obercreek Brewery, walk your dog at Carnwath or on the paths at Stonykill or drive through and smile at the brightly colored barn - you are part of the Hughsonville and Wheeler Hill Community and we would welcome your help in ensuring our Hamlet and community thrives.
