This is for our neighboring Town... but we certainly get the benefit of this Trail/Protected in our little spot in the world.
Come out and help explore the future for the Greenway Trail that extends from New Hamburg to Wappingers Falls or Bowdoin Park. The Putnam Audubon Society owns 99 beautiful wooded acres along Wappinger Creek, part of the Greenway. As a small volunteer non-profit in another county, they are no longer able to oversee the site. Putnam Audubon proposes to convey the parcel as a gift to the Town of Poughkeepsie, so these acres could be added to the adjacent New Hamburg Park.
Should the Town accept this offer? What would the implications be for protection, maintenance, and cost? What do we need to do to protect the property from any form of development now or in the far off future. Is an easement the answer to keep the space forever wild.
Join Town Supervisor Rebecca Edwards and town representatives and departments for a public conversation. Scenic Hudson, which has been researching the site and providing advice, will give a brief presentation and answer questions. So will leaders of The Friends of Peach Hill Park, who will talk about their successful model of engaging community volunteers to help protect and care for our Town’s vital and beautiful green spaces.
